'New York: 35 Through 35’ is the latest instalment of my 35 Through 35 photo book series. I’m excited about this release because it is also my first photo book containing exclusively film photographs. Using the Leica M4 paired with the Summicron 35mm f2 version III, I explored New York City for the first time. I was in paradise as I roamed the busy, saturated streets— a street photographer’s paradise. At the conclusion of the trip, I selected 35 images, photographed through a 35mm vintage lens, on 35mm film— The trifecta. Although digital photography makes creating photographs easy, I chose to limit myself to a vintage film camera with no internal light meter and a lens operated only by manual focus. I did this because I believe that limitation is the precursor for creativity.

Moments in Light, Moments in Darkness
photos & videos by Jameel Ali
life is a compilation of moments— some remembered in light, others in darkness. but the beauty of life is found in the necessity for both.
my name is Jameel. I am a self-taught photographer who has a passion for capturing people and moments. my street photography style is photojournalistic, and I view every image as a story.
in the midst of the moment…
capturing the essence of what is, one exposure at a time, and presenting it to the world in hopes of informing generations to come…
I'm inspired by photojournalism. I see every photo taken as an ambassador for the time it was taken in. every photo tells a story.
